 Soluble in water with alkaline aqueous solution. Do not dissolve in ethanol, ethyl ether.  
 Purposes: use very widespread. Yes glass, paper, soap, detergents, textiles, leather and other important industrial raw materials. In the metallurgical industry for flux. Water purification for loading. Also used for the manufacture of other sodium compounds.  
 Preparation or Sources: a system of joint caustic soda, ammonia Soda, Blantyre Road Act, but also by Trona in the refining process.  
 Note: hygroscopicity strong, because moisture can form hard and fast.
