How do you prepare a 10% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) buffer?
Jun 24,2026
A 10% sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) solution is a commonly used buffer for Western blotting, SDS-PAGE electrophoresis, and cell lysis and total protein extraction. To prepare 100 mL of this solution, follow these steps: Take a clean beaker, weigh out 10 g of SDS powder, add approximately 80 mL of deionized water (or ultrapure water), and gently swirl to mix. Wait until the solid is completely dissolved. Once the solution has cooled to room temperature, transfer it to a graduated cylinder or volumetric flask and dilute to a final volume of 100 mL.
