If turned yellow, is sodium iodide still usable?
Jun 1,2026
Yes, but need adjustment. Sodium iodide (NaI) is white. When exposed to atmospheric oxygen or UV light, it undergoes photooxidation, producing free iodine (I2), then form triiodide, which is yellow or brown tint. If found NaI turned yellow, you can add reducing agent to make it restore to white.
