Dimethyl sulfate is a highly toxic, corrosive and potent alkylating chemical reagent, which appears as a colorless oily liquid with strong chemical activity. It is mainly applied in organic synthesis to introduce methyl groups for the production of pesticides, medicines and dye intermediates. Due to its severe toxicity, carcinogenic risk and strong irritation to human skin and respiratory tract, it is strictly restricted in daily consumer materials, so it is not used in perfume production at all, and never added as a raw material or auxiliary agent in fragrance formulas.
