Xylene exists in three distinct isomeric forms based on the placement of the two methyl groups attached to the benzene ring, includes Meta-xylene, Para-xylene and Ortho-xylene. Meta-xylene is the most common xylene isomer in naturally occurring commercial mixtures, typically making up 44% to 70% of the raw product. However, para-xylene is the most widely produced and commercially significant single isomer, accounting for about 97% of xylene used in the manufacturing of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) plastics and synthetic textiles.
