Steps:
Reaction of adiponitrile to give N'1,N'6-dihydroxyadipimidamide: Adiponitrile (1 g, 9 mmol) and hydroxylamine (50% in water, 1.24 cm3, 1.34 g, 20 mmol, 2.2 eq) in EtOH (10 cm3) were stirred at room temperature for 2 days and then at 80° C. for 8 hours. The mixture was allowed to cool and the precipitated crystals were collected by filtration and dried in high vacuum line to give the product N'1,N'6-dihydroxyadipimidamide (1.19 g, 75.8%) as a white solid, mp 160.5 (decomposed) (lit decomposed 168-170° C.
