To a solution of 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy) ethylamine hydrochloride (100 g) in water (200 mL), was added 10% aqueous NaOH at 00C till the pH of the solution is 12-14 and then extracted into dichloromethane (3 x 100 mL). The organic layer was washed with brine (2 X 100 mL). The organic layer was dried over Na2SO4 and concentrated to obtain 2-(2-methoxyphenoxy) ethylamine (97%).
