Synthesis of 2-(chloromethyl)pyridine hydrochloride
2-pyridinylmethanol (100 g, 0.92 mol) was added under stirring and cooling (0°C) to 300 ml (4.1 mol) of SOCl2 during 2h.
The solution obtained was refluxed for 1h.
Then the excess of SOCl2 was removed in vacuum and the solid residue was used in the next stage as it is.
Yield 100%.
