2 4.2.1.1. General procedure 1: synthesis of linear anilides 21a-f.
General procedure: The cyclic ketone (1 equiv) was added to a solution of magnesium methyl carbonate (2 M in DMF, 8 equiv). The reaction mixture was stirred at 130 °C for 6 h. After cooling to rt, 10% HCl solution was added until the pH became acidic. The aqueous phase was extracted with Et2O, and the combined organic layers washed with H2O and sat. brine, dried over MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to give the carboxylic acid.
