2-Bromoacetamide (1 g, 7.25 mmol) was dissolved in acetonitrile (10.35 mL) and 2 M dimethylamine in THF (12 mL, 24.00 mmol) was added. The mixture stirred under argon at room temperature for 48 hours. The reaction mixture was evaporated under reduced pressure and the residue was re-dissolved in a 1 : 1 mixture of dichloromethane and methanol (50 mL). It was neutralized over a carbonate resin (2 equiv) with gentle shaking for 20 hours. The reaction mixture was filtered and the filtrate was evaporated to yield 2- (dimethylamino)acetamide (0.740g, 100% yield) as a peach-colored solid. NMR (400MHz, DMSO-i?): δ 7.34 (s, 1 H), 7.19 (s, 1 H), 3.01 (s, 2 H), 2.31 (s, 6 H).
