COMPARATIVE EXAMPLE 5 The reaction mixture was HRh(CO)(PPh3)3 (0.042g), Ph3P (1.3g), allyl alcohol (7.0g), p-xylene (7.0g) and diethylformamide (7.0g). Similar reaction conditions to those of Example 1 were used. At the end of the reaction, gas-liquid chromatography analysis showed a 93% yield of 2-hydroxytetrahydrofuran was obtained, but only a single-phase homogeneous product solution was observed.
