2-bromo-5-methyl-pyridine (22, 1.61 g, 9.4 mmol) was reacted with NaHS-H2O (5.5 g, 75.8 mmol) in 15 mL of 1 ,2-propylenediol in a sealed tube at 16O0C. After 1.5 h no starting material was detected by TLC. Cooled to room temperature and 1.2 mL of glacial acetic acid was added drop wise to the reaction mixture and the 5-methyl- pyridine-2-thiol (23) formed as a pale yellow powder. The crude was purified by Combi Flash chromatography (CHCI3/CH3CN). Obtained 0.25 g (2.0 mmol) of target 23, as a pale yellow solid, in 21% yield.
