1 Example 1Synthesis of 2-nitro-ethanol
Open stirring at room temperature, was added to the 1000L reactor nitromethane (550Kg, 9Kmol, 486L), 200L ethanol, paraformaldehyde (90Kg, 2.81Kmol), potassium carbonate (1.5Kg, 10.9mol), and stirring was continued 4h, then heated at reflux for 3h. Recovered by distillation under reduced pressure and the solvent nitromethane unreacted ethanol, 971.1Kg to give a pale yellow oil in 96% yield, used without purification directly to the next reaction.
