General procedure: A mixture of aryl acid hydrazide (10 mmol), chloroacetic acid (10 mmol) and POCl3 (7 ml) was heated under reflux for 5-6 h. The excess POCl3 was removed under reduced pressure and the residue was poured onto crushed ice. The resulting precipitate was filtered, washed with saturated sodium bicarbonate solution and then with water, dried and recrystallized from ethanol to obtain 3.
