Steps:
3-(2-Ethoxyphenyl)propionic acid (S18a)
A solution of methyl 3-(2-ethoxyphenyl)propionate (210 mg, 1.01 mmol) in methanolic KOH (1.0 M, 5.0 mL, 5.0 mmol) was heated at 60 °C for 16 h. The solvent was removed and the residue was diluted with water and acidified (pH 3) with 10% aqueous HCl to obtain a precipitate. The precipitate was collected, washed with water, and dried to yield 150 mg (76%) of product as a white powder.
