Steps:
Synthesis of β-(N-benzothiazoline-2-one)propionic acid.
4.77 g (90 mmol) of acrylonitrile, 0.056 g (1 mmol) of KOH, and 50 ml of dioxane were added to 4.5 g (30 mmol) of benzothiazoline-2-one. The reaction mixture was boiled for 2 h, squeezed well, transferred into a round-bottom flask, and 85 ml of concentrated HCl were added. The flack content was boiled for 4 h, cooled, filtered off, recrystallized from benzene, and 6.22 g (93%) of the product with melt of 129-131 °C was obtained.
