Steps:
3,4-Dichlorophenyl acetate (29).
Acetyl chloride (0.89 mL,12.5 mmol) was added dropwise to a solution of 3,4-dichlorophenol (1.63 g, 10 mmol) and triethylamine (1.74 mL,12.5 mmol) in DCM (15 mL) at 0 °C. The mixturewas stirred at roomtemperature for 20 h, diluted with DCM (15 mL), washed with 10%HCl (10 mL), saturated aqueous NaHCO3 (10 mL), and brine (10 mL),dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated to give 2.05 g (~100%) of 29 asa yellow oil: 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ7.42 (d, 1 H, J 8.7 Hz), 7.24 (d, 1 H,J 2.6 Hz), 6.96 (dd, 1 H, J 8.7, 2.6 Hz), 2.27 (s, 3 H).
