Step 2 3 -(chloromethyl -5 -fluoropyridine To a solution of (5-fluoropyridin-3-yl)methanol (0.19 g, 1.50 mmol) in DCM (5 mL) was added thionyl chloride (0.19 ml, 2.6 mmol) at 0 °C. The reaction was stirred at room temperature for 2 h. The reaction was concentrated and the residue was dried in vacuo to yield 3-(chloromethyl)-5- fiuoropyridine (166 mg) which was used without characterization.
