Method 79 5-N-t-Butylcarbamoyl-2,4-dichloropyrimidine. A solution of 2,4-dichloro-5-chloroformylpyrimidine (Method 31; 9.8 g, 46.3 mmol) in dry THF (50 ml) was cooled to -15° C. t-Butylamine (5.2 ml, 49.3 mmol) and triethylamine (6.9 ml, 49.5 mmol) in dry THF (20 ml) were added slowly so as to maintain the temperature below -10° C. The resulting mixture was stirred at -10° C. for 2 hours, allowed to warm to ambient temperature and stirred for a further 30 minutes. The precipitate was removed by filtration and the filtrate evaporated to give a viscous oil, and then evaporated under high vacuum to give the title compound as a solid (10.48 g, 90%). NMR: 1.49 (s, 9H), 6.19 (brs, 1H), 8.86 (s, 1H); m/z: 248.
