4-bromo-2,6-dichloropyridineTo a suspension of copper (II) bromide (8.2 g) in acetonitrile was added t-butylnitrile (5.5 mL) at O0C 4-amino-2,6-dichloropyridne (5.0 g) in acetonitrile. The mixture slowly warmed to room temperature and stirred for an additional 12 h. The mixture was poured into 2N HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate, washed with brine, dried over magnesium sulfate, and concentrated. The title compound was recrystallized from toluene/hexanes (4.5 g).
