EXAMPLE 6 40 ml. of 1N sodium hydroxide solution was added to a solution of 5 g. of 4-acetoxy-8-chloro-1-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-s-triazolo[4,3-a][1,4]benzodiazepine in 100 ml. of tetrahydrofuran and 100 ml. of ethanol. After sitting for 15 minutes at room temperature, the reaction mixture was acidified by adding 5 ml. of glacial acetic acid and was concentrated under reduced pressure. The separated crystalline product was collected, washed with water and recrystallized from ethanol to give 8-chloro-4-hydroxy-1-methyl-6-phenyl-4H-s-triazolo[4,3-a][1,4]benzodiazepine, having a melting point of 247°-252°.
