Steps:
4-Hexyloxyphenylamine (3a).
General procedure: A mixture of 2a (40 mmol), hydrazine monohydrate (10 mL,200 mmol), and graphite (24 g, 2 mol) in absolute ethanol (100 mL) was refluxed under N2 atmosphere for 48 h. The graphite was removed by hot filtration. The filtrate was extracted with dichloromethane. The organic layer was washed with H2O, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and evaporated to dryness. The product was dried under vacuum (yield: 91 %).
