General Procedure for the Preparation of 4
A mixture of 3 (800 mg, 4.96 mmol) in MeOH (10 mL) and conc. HCl (10 mL) was stirred at 90°C for 16 h. TLC (petroleum ether: ethyl acetate = 2:1, Rf = 0.01) showed that the reaction wascomplete. The organic solvent was evaporated, and the precipitate was filtered off and dried to giveA mixture of 3 (800 mg, 4.96 mMol) in MeOH (10 mL) and conc. HCl (10 mL) was stirred at 90 Cfor 16 h. TLC (petroleum ether: ethyl acetate = 2:1, Rf = 0.01) showed that the reaction was complete.The organic solvent was evaporated, and the precipitate was filtered o and dried to give 4 (500 mg,56% yield) as a brown solid. 1H-NMR (400 MHz MeOD): 8.39 (d, J = 4.0 Hz, 1 H), 8.23 (d, J = 2.8 Hz,1 H), 7.15 (d, J = 3.2 Hz, 1 H).
