Method (b) To a solution of crude cis-4-[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-4-(2,5-difluorophenyl)cyclohexanepropanal (Example 97, method (b)) (650 g, 1.52 mol) in CH2Cl2 (6 L) and H2O (6L) was added sulfamic acid (215.5 g, 2.21 mol) followed by slow addition of sodium chlorite (180 g in 3.13L H2O, 2.0 mol) over 30 min. maintaining the internal temperature below 30° C. The phases were separated and the organic layer was washed with an aqueous Na2S2O5 solution (157 g in 20L H2O), water (20L) and then dried (Na2SO4). The solution was concentrated in vacuo and the residue was recrystallized from IPAc/heptane to afford cis-4-[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-4-(2,5-difluorophenyl)cyclohexanepropanoic acid (482 g, 74%).
