To a solution of (E)-5-(4-bromophenyl)pent-4-enoic acid (5.6 g, 22.0 mmol) in isopropanol (40 mL) was added platinum on sulfide, 5 wt.% on carbon (2 g, 22.0mmol) under N2. The mixture was stirred under H2 (1 atm) for 3 h, then was filtered; the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound (5.2 g, 20.2 mmol, 92% yield). ‘HNMR(500 MHz, CDC13) ? 7.44-7.38 (m, 2H), 7.12-7.02 (m, 2H), 2.65 - 2.57 (m, 2H), 2.45 - 2.34 (m, 2H), 1.75 - 1.63 (m, 4H).
