Reference Example 3A; 5-Bromo-2-ethyl-2,3-dihydroisoindol-1-oneTo a solution of methyl 4-bromo-2-(bromomethyl)benzoate (1.2 mmol, obtained in reference example 2) in MeOH (10 mL), ethylamine (1.2 mL of a 2M solution in MeOH, 2.4 mmol) was added. The mixture was heated to reflux for 24 h and then allowed to cool to room temperature. The solvent was evaporated and the crude product obtained was purified by chromatography on silica gel using hexane-EtOAc mixtures of increasing polarity as eluent, to afford 0.2 g of the title compound (yield: 72%).LC-MS (method 1): t_R=6.83 min; m/z=240.0/242.0 [M+H]⁺.
