26.1 Step 1: 6-Methoxybenzo[c][l,2,5]oxadiazole 1-oxide (104-1)
To a solution of KOH (16 g, 0.29 mol) in ethanol (80 mL) was added 4-methoxy-2- nitro-aniline (2.0 g, 12 mmol) at 5 °C. The resulting mixture was allowed to stir for 10 min. NaClO (40 mL, 12 mmol) was added dropwise until disappearance of 4-methoxy-2 -nitro-aniline was observed by TLC and the reaction solution turned from red to yellow. The resulting suspension was filtered and the solid collected, washed with cold water, and dried under vacuum to afford the title compound as yellow solid (1.4 g, 70%). LCMS m/z [M+H]+: 166.1.
