5-Methylhexanal 3
Weinreb amide 2 (1.65 g, 9.53 mmol, 1.0 eq) in DCM (30 mL) was treated dropwise with DIBAL-H (16 mL, 17 mmol, 2.3 eq, 1.1 M in cyclohexane) at -78 °C. After 3 h aqueous HCl (20 mL, 2 M) was added and the mixture was stirred for 2 h at room temperature.The organic layer was washed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, dried(MgSO4) and filtered through a silica pad. The solvent was removed in vacuo to give 5-methylhexanal 3 (0.92 g, 8.0 mmol, 84%)
