Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1: N'-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzenecarboximidamide;chloroacetyl chloridewith triethylamine in dichloromethane at 0; for 0.333333 h;
Stage #2: in DMF (N,N-dimethyl-formamide) at 120; for 5 h;
Steps:

Chloroacetyl chloride (0.72 ml, 9.03 mmol) and triethylamine (1.50 ml, 10.23 mmol) were added to [N-HYDROXY-3-METHOXY-BENZAMIDINE] (1 g, 6.02 mmol) in dichloromethane (12.0 ml) at [0 C] and the resulting mixture was stirred for 20 min. To effect cyclization to oxadiazole, the solution was concentrated and DMF (20 ml) was added to the residue and heated at [120 C] for 5 h. The product was purified by flash chromatography using 10-20% ethyl acetate in hexane affording 0.90 g (66% yield over 2 steps) of the title compound (yellow [OIL). 1H] NMR [(CDC13),] 8 (ppm): 7.68 (m, 1H), 7.60 (d, [1H),] 7.40 (t, 1H), 7.07 (m, 1H), 4.76 (s, 2H), 3.88 (s, 3H).
