Steps:
(1) Synthesis of compound SM2
SM1 (5.7g, 29mmol, 1.0eq) was dissolved in methanol (100mL), cooled to 0°C, concentrated sulfuric acid (3.5g, 1.9mL, 1.2eq) was added dropwise and heated to 70°C under reflux overnight. LCMS showed complete reaction of starting material. Cool to room temperature and concentrate to remove methanol. Add saturated sodium bicarbonate and extract with ethyl acetate, wash with saturated brine, dry over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filter and concentrate to obtain the product (5.6 g) as a white solid.
