Steps:

15.a (a) 2-Bromo-1-(2,3-difluorophenyl)ethan-1-one

Trimethylphenylammonium tribromide (1.59 g, 4.22 mmol) was added in portions to a stirred solution of 2,3-difluoroacetophenone (0.60 g, 3.84 mmol) in CH2CI2 (10 mL) at rt. The mixture was stirred at rt overnight, diluted with CH2CI2 and poured into water. The layers were separated and the aq phase was extracted with CH2CI2. The combined extracts were dried (Na2S0₄), filtered and concentrated. The residue was purified by chromatography to give the sub-title compound (0.80 g, 3.40 mmol, 89 %).
