Steps:
Isolation of diphenyl sulfide (DPS)
Diphenylacetylene (0.5 mmol, 89.1 mg), I2 (1 mmol, 253.8 mg), diphenyl sulfoxide (2 mmol, 404.5 mg) and dioxane (2 mL) were mixed in a round bottom flask and heated at 100 °C for 1 hr to obtain a mixture of benzil and diphenyl sulfide (DPS). Column chromatography (hexane : ethyl acetate, 10 : 1) resulted in pure DPS as a colourless liquid (0.87 mmol, 162 mg).
