GENERAL METHOD: Tristyrene (1.0 g, 3.49 mmol) was dissolved in chloroform (15 mL) and a chloroform (10 mL) solution of bromine (0.49 g, 3.06 mmol) was added slowly and dropwise. Upon completion of the reaction, the reaction mixture was decanted and the solvent was subsequently removed by distillation. The residue was recrystallized twice from ethanol to give triphenylene bromide (0.8 g, 62%) as colorless needle-like crystals.

Steps:

Dissolve 1.84g (7.2mmol) of triphenylethylene in 80mL of chloroform, add 3.6mL (7.2mmol) of Br2 dropwise at -78°C, stir for 6h after returning to room temperature, and concentrate under reduced pressure after the reaction is complete The concentrated product was subjected to column chromatography (petroleum ether: ethyl acetate=20:1-10:1, V/V) to obtain compound I and named as Ph3-Br, with a yield of 87%.
