General procedure: Entry 2: Following general procedure I (chapter 2.1.1) cholesterol 149 (193 mg, 0.50 mmol, 1.0 equiv),FPyr (9.8 ilL, 10.2 mg, 0.100 mmol, 20 mol%), dioxane (0.5 mL, 1 M) and benzoyl chloride (70 ilL,85 mg, 0.60 mmol, 1.2 equiv) were combined at ambient temperature and allowed to react at 80 °Cfor 14 h. ‘H-NMR of the crude material with naphthalene as standard revealed cholesteryl chloride249 in 59% and benzoate 349 in 30% yield (249/349 67:33).M (C27H45C1) = 405.10 g/mol; rf (5i02, nPen) = 0.48; HR-MS (Cl, PH8632, [C27H45C1]j calc. 404.3210 ufound 404.3216 u, ([C27H46C1]j calc. 405.3283 u found 405.3241 u.
