Typical procedure for the synthesis of phenolic benzoate
General procedure: Alcohols (0.1 mL,1 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of imidazole (0.272 g, 4.0 mmol) and benzoyl peroxide (0.363 g, 1.5 mmol) in 5 mL of CH3CN at reflux. The reactionwas monitored by TLC. After completion of the reaction (3 h), the solvent wasevaporated and the residue was subjected to purification on a short column ofsilica gel, using n-hexane/EtOAc (4:1) as the eluent to give phenolic benzoate.
