19.8 g (0.1 mol) of biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid, 200 ml of ethanol and 2 g (0.02 mol) of concentrated sulfuric acid were charged into a three-necked flask equipped with a mechanical stirrer and a thermometer, and heated and refluxed for 6 hours. Cooling, crystallization, mother liquor recovery 3/4 solvent, continue to cool, crystallization. The two crystals were combined and dried to obtain 21.5 g of the biphenyl-2-carboxylic acid ethyl ester product in a yield of 95.1%.
