To a solution of diethylsilane (0.5 mL, 3.85 mmol, 1.0 equiv) in THF (2.0 mL) was added NaOH (15.4 mg, 0.39 mmol, 10 mol %) and H2O (1.0 mL, 55 mmol, 15 equiv). The vial was then sealed and the mixture was stirred at 25 C for 24 h. The reaction mixture was diluted with 2 mL Et2O and analyzed by GC-MS, in which 2,2,4,4,6,6-hexaethyl-1,3,5,2,4,6-trioxatrisilinane was the major product observed (mass=306.2). Several other larger ring sizes were observed in smaller amounts.
