General procedure: A mixture of methyl 3-phenylpropionate (328 mg, 2.0 mmol), 1-octanol (390 mg, 3.0 mmol), and DTRT(H) (171 mg) was stirred at 110°C for 4 h. The mixture was treated in a manner similar to the procedure described above to give 11 (493 mg, 94%).
