General procedure: Diphosphonate IVa (7.7 g) was added upon stirring at10° to 30 mL of methanol. The mixture was heated to reflux, and then evaporated. White crystals were filtered off and kept in vacuum at 1 mmHg during 1 h. Yield 2.5 g (96%), mp 159°.
