(a) Tetradecanamide Ammonia was bubbled continuously into a 50° C. solution of benzene (100 mL). Myristoyl chloride (10 mL) in benzene (50 mL) was added dropwise. After addition was complete, ammonia was bubbled in for 5 minutes. The mixture was allowed to cool to room temperature, and filtered to yield a white solid (8.7 g, 96%). 1 H NMR 90 MHz: δ7.4 ppm (s, 2H); 2.1 (t, 2H); 1.3 (s, 20H); 0.9 (t, 3H).
