1-(hydroxymethyl)cyclobutanol
At 25°C, to lithium aluminum hydride (1.52g, 40.0mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (30 mL) was added dropwise a solution of 1-hydroxycyclobutanoic acid (1.16g, 10.0mmol) in tetrahydrofuran (10mL) was added. The reaction was heated to reflux for 1 hour. The reaction liquid was brought to 25°C, water (20 mL) quenched, (50 mLx3) and extracted with ethyl acetate, the organic phase was dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate, filtered, and the filtrate was concentrated under reduced pressure to give 1-(hydroxymethyl) cyclobutanol (0.800g, as a colorless oil). yield: 80%.
