Octaethylene Glycol is part of a leaf extract (Murdannia Bracteata) which was shown to exhibit antioxidant, antimicrobial and anti-cancer properties. It can be prepared by Pd/C catalytic reduction of 1,27-Diphenyl-2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,26-nonaoxaheptacosane in ethanol solution.

General procedure: To a solution of compound s18b (1.0 g; 1.81 mmol; 1 eq.) dissolved in anhydrous ethanol (60 mL), 10% Pd/C(0.10 g; 0.006 mmol) was added portionwise. The resulting mixture was degassed three times under reducedpressure, then stirred under hydrogen atmosphere (1 bar) for 16 h. The resulting suspension was filtered onCelite 545 and the filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure to afford s1b (0.650 g; 1.756 mmol; 84%) asa white oil which was used in the next step without purification. Revelator: Dragendorff. 1H NMR (200 MHz,CDCl3) 3.37-3.58 (m, 32H, CH2-O).
