Example 1; Preparation of (2S)-2-(3,4-difluorophenyl)oxirane; A mixture of (15)-2-chloro-l-(3,4-difluoroρhenyl)-l-ethanol (net 11.47 g, 59.5 mmol), toluene (25.23 g), sodium hydroxide (2.53 g, 1.06 molar equivalents) and water (24.25 g) was stirred and heated at 400C for 1 hour. The organic layer was separated, washed with water, and concentrated under reduced pressure. (2ιS)-2-(3,4-difluorophenyl)oxirane was obtained as resultant concentrate (net 8.94 g, yield: 96%).1H-NMR in (400MHz, CDC13) δ 2.71 - 2.73(1H, dd, J=2.44Hz, 5.37Hz), 3.13 - 3.15(1H, m), 3.82 - 3.83(1H, m), 7.01 - 7.27(4H, m).
