16 Synthesis of Phenyl Oxirane
Weigh p-propoxybenzyl sulfide 27.3g (0.15mol)And dimethyl sulfate 18.9g (0.15mol) placed in 250mL three-necked flask,The reaction was heated at 90 ° C for 2h with stirring. To this was added dimethyl sulfoxide 120g,Benzaldehyde 10.6 g (0.10 mol),33.6 g (0.60 mol) of potassium hydroxide,The reaction was stirred at 50 ° C for 4 h. After the reaction,100 mL of water was added to the reaction mixture, the mixture was stirred and separated. The aqueous layer was extracted with toluene (50 mL × 3)The combined organic phases were dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate, filtered with suction,The filtrate was recovered by vacuum distillation dimethyl sulfoxide and propoxybenzyl sulfide,11.9 g of phenyloxirane was obtained, the purity was 98.0% Yield 99.1%
