Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene can be used to prepare semiconductor polymers. After a solution of thiophene[3,2-b]-thiophene-2-carboxylic acid and copper in quinoline was stirred at 260°C for 30 minutes, the solution was cooled to room temperature and extracted with ether, and washed with 1M HCl(aq). The organic layer was dried and purified to give Thieno[3,2-b]thiophene.
