30,9g boric acid, 279 g dodecyl alcohol and 250mL toluene is added to a 1000ml volume of glass reactor equipped with reflux condenser Dean-Stark trap.
The reaction mixture is heated at 130°C and stirred until stoichiometrical amount of water (27 mL) is collected in the trap (2-3h).
As a result of the reaction, the residual toluene is removed by the suction from the top of the reflux condenser (20-25mmHg).
As a result of this, dodecyl borate remains in the reactor, and the boron ester solidifies upon cooling.
The solid boron ester dissolves in 300mL dichloroethane and a homogenous mixture is acquired.
