A solution of (L)-(1S,2R)-N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-O-tert-butylthreonine dicyclohexylamine salt (2.15 g, 4.4 mmol) in CH2Cl2 (50 mL) was treated with a solution of CH2N2 in Et2O until a yellow color persisted. The resulting solution was concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was dissolved in EtOAc (100 mL) and washed sequentially with a 1N HCl solution (2×100 mL) and a saturated NaCl solution (50 mL), dried (MgSO4), and concentrated under reduced pressure to yield (1S,2R)-N-(benzyloxycarbonyl)-O-tert-butylthreonine methyl ester (1.44 g, 100%): TLC (25% EtOAc/hex) Rf0.54
