Reaction Conditions:
Stage #1:bromobenzene;4-chlorobenzoyl chloride with aluminum (III) chloride at 55; for 72 h;Inert atmosphere;

Steps:
2.2.2 Bis(4-bromophenyl)methanone (1)
A mixture of 4-bromobenzoyl chloride (6.58g, 30mmol) in bromobenzene (25mL) was added at a solution of AlCl3 (4g, 30mmol) in bromobenzene (26mL) under nitrogen. The mixture was stirred at 55°C for 3 days and then, 100g ice and 50mL HCl conc. were added. The resulting mixture was extracted twice with diethyl ether, washed with aqueous NaOH 5% and then with water, dried over magnesium sulfate, then concentrated under vacuum. The crude product recrystallized from methanol gave white powder (8.45g, 83%).
