Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate Chemical Properties,Uses,Production
Description
Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate (THPS) is an organophosphorus compound. It is used as a precursor in the flame retardant manufacturing process, a biocide in water systems, and a tanning agent in the leather industry. THPS is a safe aqueous solution with antimicrobial properties that is significantly less toxic, effective at lower concentrations, and more biodegradable than other traditional biocides.

Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate is incompatible with oxidizing materials and alkalis.

Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate is probably combustible.

Synthesis
Add sulfuric acid and formaldehyde into the reaction kettle, open the gas-liquid circulation mixing reaction pump, add phosphine into the gas-liquid circulation mixing reaction pump, at 50-60 through the gas-liquid circulation mixing reaction device to absorb phosphine, phosphine is not completely absorbed into the next gas-liquid circulation mixing reaction pump (the two gas-liquid circulation mixing reaction device is the same, just connected in series, so that it is more conducive to the use of phosphine), the reaction end point is determined by the central control detection of formaldehyde content, and then concentrated by decompression to get tetrahydroxymethylphosphine sulfate. Detect the content of formaldehyde through the central control to determine the end point of the reaction, after the end of the reaction by decompression and concentration to get tetrakis(hydroxymethyl)phosphine sulfate.
