| Description | Cefoperazone (Medocef) binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the inner membrane of the bacterial cell wall. PBPs are enzymes involved in the terminal stages of assembling the bacterial cell wall and in reshaping the cell wall during growth and division. Inactivation of PBPs interferes with the cross-linkage of peptidoglycan chains necessary for bacterial cell wall strength and rigidity. It can inhibit rMrp2-mediated [3H]E217βG uptake (IC50: 199 μM). |
| In vivo | After treatment of Cefoperazone (2 g, i.v.), levels in serum range from 202μg/mL to 375 μg/mL depending on the period of drug administration. After intramuscular injection of 2 g of Cefoperazone, the mean peak serum level is 111 μg/mL at 1.5 hours. At 12 hours after dosing, mean serum levels are still 2 to 4 μg/mL. Cefoperazone is 90% bound to serum proteins. |
